Luonnonsuojeluiiton kirje ilmastokomissaari Hoekstralle hiilinieluista

Dear Commissioner Hoekstra,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Suomen luonnonsuojeluliitto (Finnish Association for Nature Conservation), an independent Finnish non-governmental organisation working to protect nature, halt biodiversity loss and address climate change at local, national and international levels.

We would thank You for your work on setting the EU’s post-2030 climate targets and ensuring the path towards climate neutrality by 2050.

We have attached a letter outlining our views on the recent development of Finland’s carbon sinks and the implications for EU and national climate policy.

We would be very pleased to discuss these issues with You in person and exchange views on the future of EU climate and land-use policy. We met last time in June 2024 in Helsinki and we would like to continue discussions with new pieces of information.

We are planning to visit Brussels on 29–30 September and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with You during our visit.
We would particularly welcome the opportunity to discuss the development of the EU’s post-2030 climate framework and the future of the LULUCF Regulation. Given the importance of the land-use sector and forests to Finland’s climate policy, we believe that Finland’s experience also offers relevant perspectives for the wider EU discussion.

If your schedule permits, we would be grateful for a meeting at a time convenient to you on either 29 or 30 September.
