Saimaa ringed seals have started their molting season. The weather was sunny, the water is still cold, the air temperature is +7 °C.
Saimaannorpat ovat aloittaaneet karvanvaihtokauden. Sää oli aurinkoinen, vesi on edelleen kylmää, ilman lämpötila +7 °C.

Hyvää äitien päivää. Sää puolipilvinen, 7°C. Näimme useita norppia. Myös yksinäinen joutsen ja kuikkapari näyttäytyivät Pihlajaveden saaristossa.
Happy Mother’s Day. Weather partly cloudy, 7°C. We saw several seals. The pictures also showed a lone swan and a pair of Black-throated loons in the Pihlajavesi archipelago.
Lisäys kuviin, sunnuntaina näimme myös monenlaista liikennettä Pihlajavedellä. Puidenkuljeuslaiva vei lastiaan etelän suuntaan. Saimaannorpan suojelun Grand old man Paavo Immonen tuli kertomaan norppahavainnoistaan souturetkellä. Kalasääksen pesintä on käynnissä, munien haudonta jatkuu vielä touko-kesäkuun vaihteeseen.
Addition to the pictures, on Sunday we also saw a variety of traffic on Pihlajavesi. A timber transport ship was taking its cargo south. The Grand Old Man of Saimaa Seal Conservation, Paavo Immonen, came to talk about his seal observations on a rowing trip. Osprey nesting is underway, and egg incubation will continue until the turn of May/June.

Sää aurinkoinen 17°C. Aurinkoinen sää valitettavasti tarkoittaa, että pienveneitä on myös liikenteessä, jotkut omatoimisista norpan tarkkailijoista ei tiedä tai välitä ohjeista norpan kohtaamisesta. Kivellä makaavaa norppaa ei pidä lähestyä, oikea tapa norpan tarkkailuun on kiikarien kanssa etäältä!
Weather sunny 17°C. Unfortunately sunny weather means that small boats are also in traffic, some of the independent seal spotters do not know or care about the instructions for encountering a seal. A seal lying on a rock should not be approached, the right way to observe a seal is from a distance with binoculars!
